Bryn Caren hits the ball with a backhand shot

Bryn Caren, senior, is a seasoned varsity tennis player for the Eastern Girls Tennis Team. She has won awards such as the USTA regional tournament at Moorestown Tennis Club as well as many victories for home here at Eastern.

For Bryn, tennis is a critical aspect of who she is as a person, and the feeling of playing is like no other for her. She enjoys how “personal” the sport can be. Caren said, “I enjoy being able to individually guide my own success. With tennis, I am able to do that, while still contributing as part of a team of other players that enjoy the same game, and strive toward our overall success.”

Bryn has been fortunate enough to really get some beneficial skills not only on the court but also off. “From tennis, I have been taught what it takes to be a well-rounded individual, and to be honest.”

Bryn has allowed her years of tennis playing to mold her as a young student athlete but tennis was not the first sport she played. “I began, like most young children, testing out a variety of games, on numerous local teams. Not wanting to take tennis lessons even at my parent’s suggestion, the day came where I did not have much of a choice.  Starting at the age of nine, I had my very first lesson with Coach Omar, with whom I continue to hit with on a weekly basis.”

Yet Caren says if tennis was not an option, she would enjoy playing golf because like tennis, it allows her to be in full control over whether she wins or loses.

Like many teams at Eastern, the sense of comradery is strongly flowing within members of a team. Caren has been a member of the tennis team here at Eastern for four years and has shown great dedication to the sport. She has inspired others and is a role model for the underclassman players.

Tennis has affected Caren  positively on the court just as much as it has off. Bryn is involved in numerous clubs as she is an officer for both DECA Club and Key Club,  a member of the Spanish Honor Society, and a general member of other service clubs. With her numerous activities and load of school work, Bryn’s schedule is packed to the brim.

This student athlete unfortunately is closing in on her time here at Eastern with the tennis season soon to be over, but Bryn is thankful for her time spent on the team and will always cherish the memories and friendships made here at Eastern.
