Honeygrow/Shake Shack Review

Right off of Route 70 in Marlton, a Honeygrow and a Shake Shack recently opened next to one another. One left me completely satisfied, anxious to return. The other…not so much.

Let’s start with Honeygrow. Honeygrow is a stir-fry restaurant with Philly roots. You tap your customizable order onto a computer screen, and then watch as the cooks throw in the noodles, meat, veggies, spice, and sauce that you ordered. It’s an amazing, salivating show.

Afterwards, you get to chow down on your creation. Every bowl tastes different, depending on what you put inside. While the taste may differ, the quality always remains the same.

Honeygrow is a fresh new spin on fast food not only because of its meals but because of their drinks too. While you won’t find any Coca-Cola or Sprite here, you will not be disappointed by their selection. Their drinks include homemade teas, lemonades, and sodas.

Now for Shake Shack. Shake Shack is a gourmet burger restaurant that unsurprisingly offers a variety of milkshakes. As soon as I saw the line that ran out the front doors, I knew I was in for a treat.

Shake Shack offers a wide arrange of burgers and shakes, as well as a few other desserts. It’s an upscale fast food restaurant with a beautiful interior design and atmosphere. They even offer games and blocks to play with.

The burgers taste fresh and unique, in part due to Shake Shack’s special sauce. The milkshakes are smooth and creamy which made it hard for me to stop drinking mine.

The other drinks at Shake Shack are appealing, as well. If you choose to not opt for one of their milkshakes, Shake Shack also offers some original drinks of its own.

While both places have their perks, one of them was clearly better. Only one of the restaurants hits it out of the park in almost all aspects, and that restaurant was Honeygrow.

The food at Honeygrow was of a much higher quality than the food at Shake Shack. The noodles were not only delicious, but satiating.

My burger from Shake Shack was decent but not something that I’m rushing out of the door to try again. I actually prefer the burgers at the new Sophie & Pete’s in the Voorhees Town Center. The burgers there are much bigger, around the same price, tastier, and better looking.

At Shake Shack, I found myself wanting more after my estimated 1300 calorie meal of a burger and a strawberry shake. I felt good about how I was eating after my meal at Honeygrow, which something that I can’t say about my meal at Shake Shack.

I found myself constantly refilling my cup at Honeygrow, craving more of their homemade drinks, but I can’t say that I felt the same way about the strawberry shake that I had at Shake Shack though. I’d rather have a shake from McDonald’s for less money and  almost the same quality.

To Shake Shack’s credit, it gets the award for better atmosphere. The restaurant feels roomy and comforting which pairs nicely with the comfort food. Though the atmosphere at the Honeygrow is nice, a quick peek into the two restaurants reveals the obvious winner, Shake Shack.

Did I enjoy my meals at both restaurants? Yes, though, in a competition between the two, Honeygrow is the clear victor. If you find yourself having to choose between one of these conjoined restaurants, do yourself the favor and take the door on the left into Honeygrow.
