Mr. Bowne

Each of these different sports channels has aired reruns of past and famous games. For example, the NFL channel has played this year’s Super Bowl and the NBA channel has aired Kobe Bryant’s final basketball game. Different playoff championship games have also been aired of these sports for the viewers’ pleasures.

How did it come to this?

I had just dressed into my pajamas when my phone buzzed.

Now, I’m not the most popular guy and people don’t usually text me at around 9:30 at night. I tried to ignore the buzz when it happened again, and then another time, and then a third time. I checked my phone to see my awaiting Twitter notifications.

I scrolled. My eyes opened wide. My jaw, wide.

I read, “Basketball player, Rudy Gobert, tested positive for coronavirus. NBA to suspend season.”

If you know me, you know that I wasn’t the biggest basketball fan. While I rooted for the Sixers and wanted them to do well but I wasn’t an active NBA watcher. But, I knew this development was big,

The Twitterverse blew up. People worried about Gobert, people worried about the virus, and a whole lot of people were mad about the suspension of the basketball season.

My immediate reaction was to type in “NHL coronavirus” in the search bar. I worried about hockey. The Flyers were having one of their best seasons of the decade this year so of course their season would be cancelled because of a world pandemic.

A tweet informed me that NHL was still going to continue play, so I had gone to bed with visions of Flyers still winning the Stanley Cup in my head.

It was hectic the next day at school. Kids gathered around with their friends while giving their opinions on the sports world and if the coronavirus would cancel all sports.

Me, I kept scrolling through my phone while checking for updates on the status of the NHL. That Thursday night, the Flyers were supposed to play a huge game against the Lightning. I have been madly disappointed if the game did not happen.

I got the alert the NHL would suspend its season before history class. I was angry the whole day and so was the whole world. While I understood the decision, because safety is the most important, what was I going to do without hockey?

I remembered. Baseball season was going to be back in two weeks! I could watch that!

  Nope, postponed.

Uhhh… I guess I have to watch the XFL now, then? But that was gone as well.

March Madness, soccer, baseball, all gone in a flash

All professional sports had been erased for at least the next month. It was like the sports world just stopped.

A few days ago, I was forced to watch motorcross with my friends. I have to say, it is pretty interesting but definitely not my cup of tea.

I’m going crazy. This week feels like it is stuck in molasses. This month

I guess I’ll just be sitting here,  while counting the days until the sports world comes out of its hiatus.
