Fashion students create over 450 masks for the community

Lindsey Hoffman worked with her family to create masks. At Spring Break, they made 273 masks. Stephanie Berthin made 30 masks for Cathedral Kitchen. And Shelby Pinette made masks for children at Virtua. All are juniors.

Urban Promise workers are protected by the masks made by the fashion students. The 42 member staff has been split into two rotating teams to reduce exposure to the coronavirus.

Dear Mrs. Bowne and the Fashion students,

Thank you so much for dropping off the masks made by Eastern’s fashion students. So much has changed the past eight weeks at Cathedral Kitchen. We suspended our Culinary and Baking Arts Job Training program and no longer welcome meal guests into our dining room.

We now provide hot meals and bags of food pre-wrapped “to-go” at our front door. As many as 450 individuals are served each day. We also continue to provide 1,600 daily meals to halfway houses and homeless shelters in Camden.

Our 42 member staff has been split into two rotating teams to reduce exposure to the coronavirus. Each team works three days and then has three days off. Your donation of masks helped us reach our goal of providing each team member with three washable masks. We are happy to report that currently, the safety precautions we have put in place have kept our staff healthy and well.

We greatly appreciate your efforts to provide service opportunities to the students at Eastern.

 Thank you for your support!

 Warm regards,
