Open Letter to The Make Up Industry
Makeup not only has ruined the beauty standard, but has made a fool of women who feel as if they need to spend an absurd amount of money on a single product.
Dear Makeup Industry,
Dating back to the 1920’s, women have been held to a standard of how they should look and how they should act. It started with red lips and black eyeliner and is now so much more.
For example, female celebrities get called ugly, or lazy, or even get told it looks like they “let go” just because they woke up and decided not to paint their faces with makeup. Brands can come out with a new product and charge an insane amount for a product and still get away with it.
The stigma around buying drugstore makeup because it’s considered “cheap” or “trashy” needs to be discussed. Whether women cant or don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a product that will most likely be all used up within a month, shouldn’t be shamed.
Celebrities who start these multimillion dollar beauty brands only care about making money, not affordable makeup that’s affordable to anyone who’s interested. This industry wasn’t made for women, but for the men who look at them.
Makeup not only has ruined the beauty standard, but has made a fool of women who feel as if they need to spend an absurd amount of money on a single product.
It is up to you, now, to fix the problem you’ve started; change your prices, and fix the standard. I’m telling you now that eventually women will start opening their eyes and decide to stop paying your unreasonable prices.
From,
A teenage girl who won’t be held to your standard
