Racism on Tiktok – is it overexaggerated?
You’ve probably seen multiple people speaking in social media comments, whether it’s something optimistic or negative. Now, racist people are slowly making their way onto TikTok, but not only on someone’s comments.
Multiple comments that end with an emoji of an old white man are considered to be racist. The joke begins with a racist statement, and then the emoji. The comments are trying to reenact what they think white men during the time of slaves would’ve said.
User @coryla1 addresses this problem, but many people in the comments disagree with his statement. The people who disagreed with @coryla1 commented on his video that “it’s just a joke” and “it doesn’t matter”.
Thankfully, multiple people were able to comment back and explain how it is not a joke, and how it shows their character and how they act. Users who agreed with the video said that “It’s not funny it’s sad” and “this guy understands”. It’s good that people notice the racism in TikTok comments and are explaining how it’s wrong.
Many people don’t usually post about racism, and share what they’d like to post. People wouldn’t post about racism on tiktok so they can’t get canceled. Racism is finally continuing to calm down on TikTok, but it’s not completely over. People are now able to call out when others are being rude or disrespectful, which is often the case.
Under the ‘Munch (Feelin’ U)’ audio, there are creators who say the N word who are clearly not allowed to say that word. Many forget this problem, but it’s still acknowledged by many good souls on the app. Although I am unable to find the creator of the video who noticed these types of creators and what they’re posting, their video consisted of people who were clearly not people of color. If you’re not a POC, then you’re unable to say that word.
Racism is something that happens in everyday life, and is sadly still not abolished worldwide. People should call out racism when they see it, and should try and inform the racist of what they’re doing wrong. Some people are arrogant and do not listen, especially on social media.
However, just because there are people who are rude on social media, doesn’t mean there aren’t people just as nice. Racism on TikTok and in general is something that shouldn’t be tolerated, and if more accounts call out the people who create racism on TikTok and other social media, there could be a change.
