Sleep Deprivation: How it Can Affect Your Body
Sleep deprivation or lack of sleep can really take a toll on a teenage brain that is still developing and continuing to keep developing until they reach into their mid 20s.The cause of lack of sleep and deprivation can really affect the learning aspect for a person. Especially students where they have to wake up at the crack of dawn to get to school. Most of the time they pull all nighters because they were trying to finish an assignment or weren’t able to sleep depending on the case, but other than that it doesn’t matter everyone should at least receive a sufficient amount of sleep.
Not just your brain gets affected by lack of sleep, your everyday routine also gets impacted such as the causes of not getting enough sleep consists of “poor sleep hygiene, medical conditions and work obligations and lifestyle choices”. Which especially affects the young brain that is still trying to interpret information. While sleeping one of the most important main functions or “activities” the teen brain performs while asleep is called “Greasing”. “Known as myelination, this process allows rapid communication between various areas of the brain and frontal lobes.”
It’s crazy how our brain works in many ways and how we function throughout the day, how our sleep can affect how we act during the day and how we communicate and interact with others, such as our friends and family. The brain can do many things and how we can act upon what we feel and how we see things. At the end of the day, sleep is a number one priority with the teenagers brain especially teenagers who have a school life and need to stay alert and have a better stance.
The website called “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention” has tips for better sleep. For the first habit they stated, “be consistent. Go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time each morning, including weekends’’. Which is pretty difficult for some people to have an early sleep schedule for the weekend, most stay up late, go out and have fun ect. Teenagers find it more difficult to put their phones away at night, but a best other option would be to remove electronics devices from the bedroom. Try to avoid any caffeinated drinks that would keep you awake and not be able to go to sleep. Sleep is a very important and vital part of anyone’s health. It can affect many things if your not getting the sufficient amount of sleep.
