Fall: leaves changing colors, sweater season, pumpkin patch visits, halloween movies, in my opinion the best time of year. It’s not too hot, but also not too cold, and for some people it’s known as ‘Gilmore Girls’ season. With that being said, I’ve compiled a list of Halloween/ fall themed movies and episodes so you’re not searching for hours on October first!
Goosebumps
Starting this list off we have Goosebumps. The classic novels written by none other than R.L. Stine. There’s been so many movies and shows that have aired over the years about these books from “Goosebumps: Scary House to the Goosebumps” that came out in 2015. However, my personal favorite is “Goosebumps: The Ghost Next Door”.
It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Next up we have another classic, It’s Charlie Brown! Growing up the Peanuts comics were always lying around the house, so I grew up watching all the Charlie Brown movies. The Halloween movie was always a personal favorite. I loved the way that Linus sat in a pumpkin patch while all his friends were out trick or treating just because he was a little boy that believed in something.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Number three is a crowd favorite! Who doesn’t love “The Nightmare Before Christmas?” It’s the perfect movie to watch during the fall and the winter. I love watching this one the night before Halloween and over winter break! The director, Tim Burton, has also worked on one of my favorite movies, Beetlejuice.
Fear Street: Part One: 1994
Next up we have a newer movie. All three Fear Street movies came out in 2021. In my opinion, the first one, or Part One, will always be the best one. If you’re a fan of “Stranger Things”, Maya Hawke and Sadie Sink are featured in the trilogy. It also includes one of my favorite tropes, the band kid and cheerleader.
Girl Vs Monster
The next two movies are DCOMs(Disney Channel Original Movies). The First is “Girl Vs Monster” starring Olivia Holt and Luke Benward. This is one of the films I grew up watching and now it’s a little tradition for me every year on October first to watch this movie and make Pillsbury Halloween cookies. I have such vivid memories of sitting in my bedroom and absolutely screaming while singing the songs.
Halloweentown
As I said previously this is also a DCOM. This movie is also my comfort movie/ comfort series. Sometimes if I had a bad day I’ll just turn on Disney+ and see what’s up with Marnie, Dylan and Sophie. Like “Girl Vs Monster” I have an ongoing tradition with this movie. During the summer, usually from the hours of 12-3am, I’ll make friendship bracelets and just watch all four of these movies.
Good Luck Charlie: Season 4 Episode 14: Fright Night
Now onto the shows. Let’s start with a Disney classic, “Good Luck Charlie”. This was the last Halloween episode in the series and the one I remember the best. This episode has all the Dunkin kids, including Toby. In this episode Teddy has the great idea to grab a few of her friends and go “Halloween Caroling.” Since people don’t really know what Halloween caroling is, the night didn’t go tremendously.
Liv And Maddie: Season 2 Episode 3: Helgaween
In this episode Maddie gets fed up with Liv and wishes she wasn’t a twin. However, Maddie didn’t specify so she ends up being a triplet. Her, Liv, and Helga. Helga is well different from the other Rooney kids. Like Liv and Maddie, Dove Cameron plays her but everyone’s a little bit afraid of her. Maddie realizes her mistake and everything goes back to normal.
Jessie: Season 2 Episode 1: The Whining
I remember this episode actually freaking me out when I was a kid. The entire plot of this episode is the kids come to encounter a different doorman than the one they are used to. This doorman tells them a story about a nanny who does terrible things. Then, little by little, as the episode goes on it seems like history is repeating itself.
Austin & Ally: Season 3 Episode 20: Horror Stories & Halloween Scares
And here we have everyone’s favorite song writing duo. In this episode the gang gets stuck in the store, Sonic Boom, when the power cuts. To pass the time they each decide to tell a ghost story. Austin tells a story about a swamp creature who wants a friend but who also hates litter bugs. Dez talks about a ghost who steals instruments because her violin was sold but Ally sold it to a ghost. Then we have Trish who won a teddy bear at a carnival and she throws away the teddy but it keeps on appearing and last is Ally. Ally is fed up with the group not thinking she’s scary so she pulls tricks on them.
The Disney New York Crossover
I have to talk about the 2015 Monstober spectacular. In this cross over we saw an array of different characters all meet up in New York City. The shows that were included were “I Didn’t Do It”, “K.C. Undercover”, “Best Friends Whenever”, “Liv and Maddie”, “Austin & Ally”,and New York natives, the “Jessie” cast, and Riley and Maya from “Girl Meets World”.
Boy Meets World: Season 5 episode 17: And Then There Was Shawn
Speaking of Girl Meets World, let’s talk about Boy Meets World. This episode was a personal favorite of mine. The gang finds themselves in dentition but something is off and little by little they realize a killer is in the school. Shawn is the one to unmask them just to learn that the killer is Shawn’s doppelgänger.
Friends: Season 8 Episode 6: The One With The Halloween Party
Here we have another show about friends in New York. In this episode Monica hosts a Halloween party and everything is going fine and dandy until Phoebe’s twin, Ursula, arrives. If you’ve ever seen the show you know that Phoebe does not like Ursula at all so things go downhill very quickly.
Strangers Things: Season 2 episode 2: Chapter 2: Trick Or Treat, Freak
Next up on the list is “Stranger Things”. In season two the show came out with a Halloween episode. Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Will decide to dress up as the Ghostbusters. However, things don’t stay fun and normal for long. Max gets invited to go trick or treating with the gang which upsets Mike and Will keeps on having flashbacks and panic attacks.
Gilmore girls: Season 3 Episode 8: Let The Games Begin/ Fall
Ending this we have Gilmore Girls, the most fall show. This is the episode right after the dance-a-thon where Dean and Rory broke up. In this episode Rory is tricked by her grandpa into going on an interview at Yale. This ends up with everyone mad at Richard. You could watch this episode or if you want something that’s very fall themed check out “Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life: Fall”.
