The innocent die young,
Strewn across the asphalt.
Running into the dazzling haze
Of unrealistic expectation and opportunity
Like Gatsby, reaching out for a dream
That can never prosper.
They jump and leap and dance.
Finally, a chance to shine, a hope that came true,
But the weight of reality crushes their helpless body,
Until it is hopelessly taking its last breaths.
People come and go, empathizing with the corpse.
Shocked by the sight, but swiftly moving away
Putting it out of their mind.
Until no one remembers,
The depth of their struggle.
