Gold is beautiful, but have you heard of white gold? Honestly, I think it’s pretty. What’s the difference between this ‘white gold’ and your average gold?
Well, first off, what is white gold? White gold is something that can not be mined. It’s typically lab made, which is a major difference from yellow gold, or just normal gold. People usually go for white gold so they can achieve the silver jewelry look, without having to wear any silver. It’s fairly elegant in some people’s eyes, but it is less expensive than actual gold. Because white gold is a mix of many metals such as platinum and rhodium, it really does explain the ‘white’ in its name.
Rhodium is what actually makes white gold appear, well, white. After a while, your white gold will show a yellow shine, or tint. This is because the rhodium that had coated the metals that were mixed together had finally worn off. This will always happen with white gold jewelry, so don’t be surprised if you ever choose to buy some and you notice a yellow tint.
Now, let’s talk about normal gold. Yellow gold is mined. Not lab made. Although gold is precious and valuable as a metal, it’s very difficult to come across. Because of this, it’s an expensive material to buy as jewelry, or as a gold bar. Hence why many people are starting to run after white gold. In my opinion, I believe that gold is more precious and more elegant than white gold.
Normal gold is already more expensive than white gold. There’s no questions asked. Pure gold is twenty-four carats. There is nothing else in it, other than the gold itself. White gold will never be twenty-four carats because of the metals that are mixed in with it. Usually, white gold is fourteen carats, (~58.3% gold) or eighteen carats (75% gold). That’s one major difference between these two metals.
Now that there is an understanding of what white gold is, , let’s talk about the positives of it. The main pro of white gold is that it’s typically inexpensive! White gold can be a small gift to that special someone, and it’ll be beautiful as regular gold. Another plus is that it’s not your usual silver, so you can enjoy the white jewelry without having to ask if it’s fully silver.
Gold is gold. It’s a beautiful, pure metal that most people find attractive. You can see it on someone’s necklace, bracelet, or someone’s wedding ring! It’s a common metal used for most jewelry, because you can find it anywhere!
Nonetheless, jewelry is jewelry. Everyone has their own types of metals that look good on them, and maybe white gold will be your new favorite piece that’ll suit your skin!
