My entire life music has always been a huge part of my life. Since the age of three I’ve been singing along to Taylor Swift’s songs. Now that I am seventeen almost all of my wardrobe is band merch and my walls are covered in concert posters. In the past few years I’ve picked up the hobby of making playlists. I have 78 to be exact. Many genres, the songs I’m looping currently, songs for studying, songs for my friends, all of it. So I am going to be explaining a couple of my favorite playlists today.
Song A Day: First up we have Song A Day. This playlist is one I’ve been wanting to make for a while. It’s a cool but easy concept. Every single day of 2024 add a song. The first song I added was “New Years Day” by Taylor Swift and the most recent song I added was “White Winter Hymnal” by Fleet Foxes. A playlist to reflect the year.
Rory Gilmore Season: Next up we have one of my favorites. Gilmore Girls is my comfort show and the show that I, and many others, heavily associate with fall. So this playlist is my fall playlist. The playlist is about 12 hours. It has songs such as “Agusta” by Gracie Abrams and “Ivy” by Frank Ocean. Songs that just remind me of fall.
Reading By The Pool: Moving on from fall we have summer. One of my favorite pastimes is reading. I especially love reading by my pool in the summertime. So this playlist consists of songs that feel like the summer and have a very summery vibe but are also chill enough that I can focus on my book. This playlist is saved by four people so the selection is pretty good. We’re working with “Flowers In Your Hair” by The Lumineers, “Someone New” by Hozier, “Seeing Blind” by Niall Horan and Maren Morris, and many more.
Taylor’s Version: Here we have a playlist called Taylor’s Version. You may be thinking that it’s a playlist of all of the Taylor’s Version albums. You would be mistaken. This playlist was actually made for my good friend, whose name happens to be Taylor. The point of the playlist is to introduce Taylor to songs that I think she would like or songs that remind me of her. Songs such as “Medicine” by The 1975 or “Home” by Bruno Major.
She’s A Gold Rush: Similar to Taylor’s Version, this playlist is for a friend consisting of songs that I think they would like or remind me of. This playlist is for my good friend Shawna and the name is a reference to the Taylor Swift song “Gold Rush.” Which is actually the first song on the playlist. A couple others are “Feels Like” by Gracie Abrams and “Cinnamon” by Jome.
1437: Lastly we have a playlist that means the world to me. 1437 means I love you forever. This playlist is entirely made up of songs that remind me of my friends. My found family. My I love you forevers. There’s “Portland” by Bowling Shoes because my best friend and I plan to go to Portland after we graduate. Then there’s “Breathe Deeper” by Tame Impala because the gold rush herself, Shawna, introduced me to Tame Impala’s music.
These playlists aren’t just songs. They’re reflections of my life, my family, and my chosen family.
