Chase Atlantic isn’t a name of someone, believe me. I thought that the group named themselves after someone. I first discovered them around 2020 and 2021. Of course, it was during quarantine. But I think my deep dive into the alternative group was the best thing I’d ever done.
The band consists of three members, Christian Anthony, Clinton Cave and Mitchel Cave. The group could be seen as fairly new, seeing that they had formed in 2014. On Spotify, it shows that they have 15.3 million monthly listeners. They aren’t as up there in numbers with today’s popular singers and artists. The Weeknd has 107.9 million monthly listeners, and there are many more popular artists that surpass Chase Atlantic. I’m not saying that Chase Atlantic is an underground group that no one’s heard of before, but I get some confused looks when I ask people if they know about the band.
You’ve probably heard some of their songs on TikTok, Instagram, or any social media that uses audios in their videos. Using Spotify as my reference again, Swim is undoubtedly one of their most popular songs with 588,050,725 listens. I remember this song blowing up on TikTok multiple times, so I understand why it’s their most popular song.
My favorite song out of all of their music is Heaven and Back, featured in the Phases album. Unironically, their most recent album, Phases is my favorite album. Out of all three of their albums, this one is the best thing I’ve listened to. Whenever I have my headphones in, whether that’s during a car ride, or my walk from history to chemistry, I turn on their Phases album. I urge you to go listen to Phases when you have the chance. PHASES, HER, NO RAINBOWS, and STUCKINMYBRAIN, are some of my favorite songs from the album.
Their lyrics in every single one of their albums and songs is something I enjoy. Some are explicit, others have a more gratifying sense to them. Some also touch on deep topics, like Heaven and Back. This song in particular talks about a woman who falls into a deep darkness or dullness after she becomes dependent on substances. Can I also say it’s my favorite because I like the instrumentals in the song?
I believe that many people have heard of Chase Atlantic before, but none really listen to them. Go listen to this Australian group, even if you want to indulge yourself in alternative/indie music.
