A: Hey everyone! As you might have seen a while back on YouTube or social media, MatPat—the head of Game Theory, Film Theory, Food Theory, and Style Theory—is retiring. To remember MatPat and Game Theory, Kaitlin and I will talk about our experiences from watching Game Theory and the impact it had left on us.
What was the first ever Theory video you remember watching out of the four channels?
A: Honestly, I never really heard about any of the Theory channels until I saw that my sister was watching it. The first ever video that I remember is the Pirates of the Caribbean theory over on Film Theory. I remember when I was just starting high school, I loved watching Pirates of the Caribbean on repeat. I liked browsing different theories on it and the thing that kept popping up was Matpat. When I got to Matpat, I loved the amount of research and that’s when I saw his other channels. I like browsing his theories here and there on something that I like or that is interesting.
K: I don’t quite remember, but I know in the summer of 6th grade I watched a ton of his videos on the FNAF lore. So it was probably something about that, Doki Doki Literature Club, Gravity Falls, or Octodad, knowing my interests at the time. He has some very bonkers connections and theories but has always been very fun to watch. I’m going to miss that about him.
If you were able to fill in for Matpat for a day, what theory would you make?
A: Well, I have a few theories about my interests. I think I would like to make one that I’ve been thinking about recently: “Is Alastor, Bill Cipher, and the Admin related (Hazbin Hotel x Gravity Falls x Minecraft Story Mode).” It may be a far stretch but I feel like with Matpat explaining how the Disney movies are in a parallel universe, it could work.
K: I would make one about the Will Ferrell cinematic universe. There’s this theory that connects “Elf”, “The Lego Movie” and “Barbie” which I think would be fun to talk about. I also have a theory about Ariana Grande being the catalyst of COVID-19, but I’m not quite sure what channel that would fit on.
Out of the four new hosts (Santi, Tom, Amy, and Lee) , which one are you looking forward to taking over the channel?
A: I’m looking forward to seeing Santi over on Food Theory mainly because I like his personality and when he is in a video with Matpat, chaos also begins and I’m here for it. I would say my favorite collaboration with Matpat and Santi is when they were making the Prime Cake. I remember laughing so hard because of what Santi did to the cake. I’m also looking forward to Tom on Game Theory because then I’ll be watching another British channel.
K: I’m honestly looking forward to Tom! He seems like he’ll be a good match for Game Theory. He has been writing a lot for the FNAF videos, which gives me high hopes for his capabilities. I’m excited to see if he can match MatPat’s level of insanity.
I don’t know a lot about Lee aside from his commentary in the latest Gravity Falls video, but I am looking forward to his perspective as well.
What are you going to miss about Matpat?
A: I really liked his humor that he brought onto the channels. Every time he uploads a theory, I’m always there to watch it because I know that there’s going to be some chaos involved. When he uploads, it always brightens my day and I’m going to miss that.
K: I’m going to miss MatPat’s spirit. No matter how crazy the theory, he always had so much passion for it, and intense evidence to back it up. His personality is absolutely iconic, and one that the internet will never forget.
A: Well, that’s a wrap reminiscing over Game Theory. We will miss you Matpat. Here’s a clap and a half to you.
K: But that’s just a theory—A VOYAGER THEORY!
A: See you all next time!
