POV: you’re me in December posting on my private story on Snapchat about how much I love the “you don’t even know me” trend on TikTok:
“At the end of the day, humans have so much underlying beauty that gets bypassed by shallow things, such as hairstyles and hoodies, that we truly don’t know people.
Why do you prefer to stay in on a Friday night?
Why do you always wear that necklace?
Why do you say ‘I love you’ before hanging up the phone?
I don’t want to know what blush you use, or what color Uggs you got for your birthday. I want to know what makes you, you.”
I’ve grown up in a materialist, superficial world, where it’s easy to get lost while caring about social media trends, new albums, what surprise song Taylor Swift sang at The Eras Tour, etc.
Now believe me, I’m seventeen. I love keeping up with those things. But I also love noticing the little things.
Like that girl in your history class is currently reading three books and brings in a different one each day. Or, when it’s a clear night, how you can perfectly make out twenty five stars in the sky.
There’s so much beauty in noticing the little things.
The little things, like how she has wavy hair but doesn’t know how to style it, so she straightens it . How he always wears the bracelet that his little sister made him.
There’s so much to adore about this world.
I think it’s time we close out of Spotify, put down the Lululemon bag, and take it all in.
