I’ve never been a fan of country music, until I was scrolling on my TikTok and heard an artist and song I’ve never heard before—Megan Moroney’s “Break it Right Back”. In awe of the song’s deep lyrics and addictive chorus, I decided to research her more. And it turns out, Megan Moroney is more than a one hit wonder. She has amazing music! Not only is she a great songwriter, but she is beautiful and seems so kind-hearted and passionate, which caught my eye even more. This also made me start listening to country music, which I never would have done if it weren’t for her. Here is a breakdown of Megan Moroney’s career so far, along with some of my favorite songs from her.
27-year-old Megan Moroney might as well be asking herself “Am I okay?” upon entering the 2024 CMA Awards in November. Winning New Artist of the Year, she admitted “I’m freaking out” after thanking Jesus and her fans. Moroney’s career has skyrocketed since her first release. During COVID-19, Megan released her debut EP, but she still wasn’t a huge hit— until her song “Tennessee Orange” started gaining popularity on TikTok. Her name then started getting more familiar for teens. The viral success of the track gave her the momentum she needed, and soon, she was gaining more recognition across the country music scene. This led her to her second studio album “Am I Okay?” that was released this summer. I listened to the whole thing and fell in love with her because of it— the pleasing blue aesthetic with vulnerable lyrics about love and growth. The album’s raw storytelling makes it impossible to not feel connected to her breakup. If anything, I feel like I’m living it myself. And As someone who doesn’t listen to a lot of country, there are pop elements as well, which makes it suitable for non-country listeners.
With all of her new supporters and growth this year, Megan just announced her tour called “‘Am I Okay:’ The Tour,” and fans are scrambling to purchase tickets (me included).

Megan Moroney’s music has opened a door to a whole new genre for me, and I’m so glad I gave her a chance. Whether you’re a longtime country fan or someone who’s just discovering her like I did, there’s no denying that she is special. Her talent makes her an artist worth following, and I’m excited to see where her journey takes her next. I can only see her getting bigger from here.
