Hello everyone. I’m a little late to the party, but I wanted to point out a fun game called Billie Bust Up. A quick note before I begin—I always love supporting small projects on anything, from new video games to a new TV series.I am very excited for the official release of this game. So let’s get started.
Are you a fan of musicals? What about the fun boss battles at the end of each level of a game? Might I suggest Billie Bust Up, a combination of both musicals and epic boss fights? While the game is currently in development, Billie Bust Up is about an adventurous and headstrong young goat named Billie on a quest to follow in her long-lost father’s hoofsteps and reclaim a powerful magic. Alongside your mystic axolotl mentor Aristotle and playable pet fox Oscar, you’ll explore strange realms, take on showstopping villains with their own unforgettable songs, master incredible magical powers, and discover a dark, fantastic world where skillful gameplay and memorable music are harmoniously intertwined.
While the game doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, fans can expect to play the pre- alpha versions of the game to get a taste at what the feel of Billie Bust Up would be. With that being said, let’s dive into both pre-alpha versions.
Pre-Alpha Version #1: Fantoccio’s Boss Fight

So when we first dive into the game, we are able to play the boss fight with Fantoccio. Fantoccio’s voice might sound a little familiar to indie animation fans as he is played by Michael Kovach. Let’s just state this right off the bat because whenever I talk about an indie animation game or show, Kovach is most likely going to appear as a voice somewhere. For those of you who are unaware, Kovach has done multiple voices already as Serial Designation N (Murder Drones), Angel Dust (Hazbin Hotel Pilot), Jax (Amazing Digital Circus), Rocky Rickaby (Lackadaisy), and he’s also recently starred in Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 as Doey the Doughman, Rich, and Scientist #4.
Alright, so as we are greeted by Fantoccio, we head into the boss fight. Now, if you think boss battles are easy, then Billie Bust Up changes that perspective. Like I’ve said before, the boss fight is lined up to the songs, so while you are playing, the lyrics in the song match up to what Fantoccio is going to do. Let’s talk about the song used called I’ve Had Enough of You.
So I’ve Had Enough of You, in my opinion, is one of the best songs I’ve listened to. It tells the player about Fantoccio and how he is a puppet master. What I liked about this song were the play references. I love the inclusivity of William Shakespeare and his well-known plays such as Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and Hamlet. The song is such a banger and the repeated lines of the title are so well incorporated. Over on the Billie Bust Up YouTube channel, we get a glimpse of what it is going to look like in the game and I’m really excited because we are going to see more of Fantoccio than what we already saw in the pre-alpha. I also love how they are going to change the ending for the song to make it unique from the pre-alpha.
Pre Alpha Version #2: Barnaby Chase

(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Oh, why resist when the party’s just begun?
(You’ll be having so much fun)
There’s a million gruesome ways to die
(Why stay alive?)
And I’m sure your death will be second to none- photo from TNTvale on Deviantart
Let’s now get into the next boss fight with Barnaby. Barnaby is different from Fantoccio as instead of fighting him head on, the player must run away from Barnaby. Barnaby is voiced by Gabriel Brown (a.k.a Black Gryph0n). Black Gryph0n is a voice impressionist and singer who did Alastor’s singing voice in the Hazbin Hotel pilot. He is known for his famous song Insane with his brother Nathaniel Brown (a.k.a Baasik), which tells the story of the notorious radio demon’s arrival in Hell.
Barnaby is such a fun and goofy character who has become one of my favorites in the game. His song Million Gruesome Ways to Die talks about the ways in which he will make Billie suffer. Barnaby wants him to come to his party, but only those who are deceased are allowed to attend—and Billie is mortal. I really thought this was the hardest boss fight as you can’t control the camera angle and let’s just say I hope you can play upside down.
Final Thoughts
I really am excited for this game to come out eventually. I like everything about this game—the characters, the overall plot, and the art style. Billie Bust Up really raises the bar on indie animation with its cartoonish art style. So if you like musicals and video games, I would highly recommend playing this. Here is the teaser trailer for Billie Bust Up. See you all next time!
