Kierstin Clem named Photo Editor for The Voyager for 2017-2018 year

Many kids enjoy taking selfies with their friends, snapping mirror shots when showing off  a cute new outfit, or just taking a picture to capture a memorable moment.

However, for sophomore Kierstin Clem, photography has always meant more than just capturing a moment.

“I was interested in the creativity I could express and the feelings I could show through a picture,” said Kierstin. “I like how you can take something so simple and put a whole meaning behind it through the camera”.

Even though photography started off as one of Kierstin’s many hobbies, she is also looking to pursue photography as a career in the upcoming future.

Kierstin is currently in her second year of photography. In college, she hopes to major in graphic arts or anything pertaining to photography. She would love one day to start her own photography business. She mostly enjoys taking nature shots or portraits.

With social media taking up a majority of our lives, many believe the photography industry is an uprising and competitive industry for millennials since almost all teens have access to snapchat and instagram.

However, Kierstin looks at this industry in a different perspective.

“There’s so many diverse minds in this industry,” she said. “I don’t think it’s a competition because every mind and picture is different. If anything, it’s more like teamwork.”

Many individuals on Instagram have also inspired Kierstin to pursue a career in photography as well. Some names include Brandon Woelfel and her good friend Madasyn Andrews.

Madasyn, who graduated from this past year, was a huge help to Kierstin as she became more interested in photography.

Kierstin will be joining the Voyager Staff as the new Photo Editor for the 2017-2018 school year. Everyone on the Voyager Staff is excited to see all the great things that Kierstin will contribute to our school newspaper.
