Winsett commits to Rider
Senior Jack Winsett committed to Rider University to play Division 1 Baseball for the Broncs. “I thought Rider was a nice fit for me. It’s a small school, it has good academics, it’s local. I also have a good opportunity to play as a freshman which was key,” said Winsett.
Winsett plays shortstop for Eastern and earned 1st team All-Olympic Conference honors last season. Winsett will bring a lot to the table at Rider, since he does a bit of everything. Last year, he posted a .421 batting average to go along with 21 stolen bases and a 98.3% fielding percentage. However, exceptional individual stats aren’t the only thing Winsett wants to bring to the Broncs Baseball team next year. “Most importantly I think of myself as a winner, which I want to bring with me for sure” Winsett said.
Playing Division 1 baseball has been one of Winsett’s dreams since he was young. “Just about everyday since eighth grade, I have went to hit and work on mechanics after school which definitely set me up for this” said Winsett.
Jack admitted that it does feel good to accomplish one of his biggest goals, but he is still eager to accomplish more. “It may seem satisfying right now, but I know that I have a bigger goal to play professionally after college, so the grind is just beginning” Winsett said.
At Rider, Winsett will have the opportunity to play alongside former Eastern teammate Lou Priolo. “I played with Lou at Eastern two years ago. I believe we’ll have great chemistry, and I’m excited to see us succeed,” said Winsett.
Winsett will play one more season at Eastern this spring to lead the Vikings to victory before moving on to Rider.
