Senior Ali Karpousis sticks the landing at UPenn
From mommy and me classes to collegiate level gymnastics, Ali Karpousis commits to the University of Pennsylvania — her dream school.
Ever since Ali was six, she has been dedicated to competitive gymnastics. “When it came to sports, I was forced to choose between gymnastics and other sports like soccer,” she said, “but I didn’t like them as much as I liked gymnastics. I just kinda loved it.”
Ali’s heart is set on gymnastics, as was her mom’s. Ali’s mom was on the same team she will be joining at UPenn. “Little fun fact,” she laughed, “we will be the first mother daughter pair on their gymnastics team.” Her mom expresses a love for the school which she shares with her daughter.
Ali’s future at the ivy league university is filled with science based classes. She plans to major in biochemistry with the intent of going into pre-med.
When she heads off for college, Ali will be leaving her twin brother Matt Karpousis. “We run in very different circles when it comes to friends, but it’s gonna be weird not having him around,” she said, “I’m practically his third parent. You know, I don’t think he’ll admit it but he’ll miss me too.”
Even though committing to the University of Pennsylvania was exciting, Ali is looking forward to the senior trip. “I love Disney,” she said, “It’s my ultimate happy place.”
Nothing stands in Ali’s way as she achieves her goals. Her love for UPenn is so immense she mentioned, “Even if I wasn’t doing gymnastics, I would still go there.”
Passion and dedication drives Ali to be the well-rounded student she is today. Her hard work turned dreams into reality, and she’ll continue to do so as a member of the University of Pennsylvania community.
