Dylan Stezzi commits to Rochester for academics and baseball

Certain people simply have a winning mentality; Dylan Stezzi is one of those people. Stezzi will continue to exhibit this mentality in his senior season at Eastern as well as at the University of Rochester, where he received a scholarship to continue his baseball career.

Playing college baseball is something Stezzi has always wanted to do and worked hard for his whole life.  “Rochester was the best fit for me both academically and athletically. It gave me everything I wanted with a good baseball program, great academics and a great business school, and good social atmosphere,” said Stezzi.

Dylan has a lot to offer to Rochester as a player. Along with his strong leadership and winning mentality, Stezzi will provide the team with great offense as well. As a junior, he hit .385 with 8 home runs to go along with 47 RBIs, an Eastern single season record.

Dylan can get it done on defense as well. He is a lefty catcher, which is very rare in baseball; however, Stezzi doesn’t let the rarity affect him in any way as he is known for having a cannon of an arm to throw out baserunners attempting to steal on him.

Stezzi’s play did not go unnoticed last season as he made the Carpenter Cup Team along with being named First Team All-Conference. He also lead the team to a Diamond Classic Championship and has even bigger aspirations for this season.

“I think we have a great year ahead of us with a lot of returning starters and more young guys ready to come up. We did lose some remarkable players from last year, but I think we’ll surprise people this year. My goal is to win a state championship because that’s the only thing this group hasn’t won in our 4 years here,” said Stezzi.

When spring approaches, Dylan and the rest of the Eastern team will set out to do just that: win a state championship.
