California passes ground breaking bill

The bill could have significant long term effects on the NCAA.

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the Fair Pay to Play. The measure will allow college athletes in the state of California to make money off of their likeness.

Under the measure, athletes will be allowed to promote companies and products, have endorsements, sign sponsorship deals, and hire an agent.

The measure has faced much criticism from the NCAA and top universities in California. However, if the bill makes it through all of the legal battles ahead, athletes receiving pay will not be allowed to be ruled ineligible for receiving payment.

If all goes according to plan, the bill will go in effect in 2023.
