What was thought to be a typical day of prepping for the New Year ended up shocking everyone when news of Betty White’s passing took the internet by storm.

White was 99 and would be turning 100 in only a mere 17 days. She died due to natural causes in her Los Angeles home on New Years Eve morning, and her death caused many heartbreaks all over the world.

One of America’s most beloved actresses, White is most known for her role of Rose Nylund on the show The Golden Girls

The show was about four women who all share a home together in Miami, Florida, and each episode is filled with hilarious endeavors, but also heartwarming moments. Starting in 1985 and ending in 1992, the show won many awards: eleven Emmys, five American Comedy Awards, and, for White in specific, an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy. Her three costars on the show were Estelle Getty, Rue McClanahan, and Bea Arthur, and they have all passed away years before White did.

The Golden Girls wasn’t White’s only popular show she was in; The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Hot in Cleveland, and Ladies Man are all sitcoms she had a prevalent role in.

Another big part of White’s life was her comedy career, and not just in sitcoms.

At 88 years old she was the oldest host the show has ever had on Saturday Night Live, and the ratings for her episode were through the roof.

In 2012, White even hosted her own show, called Betty White’s Off Their Rocker, where older people would play pranks on the younger generations. The show ended in 2017, and, although she never won, White was nominated for the Emmy of Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program three years in a row!

White always gave back to the community, and she had a special place in her heart for animals. She did a lot of work with The Morris Animal Foundation and through that started the Betty White Wildlife Fund, which helps researchers protect and save the lives of many animals. Even though Betty White is gone, she is leaving behind a lasting legacy for years to come.
