Bruised Review

Oscar winner Halle Berry recently released a new movie with Netflix named “Bruised”which rapidly landed the streamer’s #1 film of the week slot in the U.S., and has charted at #2 on its Top 10 Global English Film List. The movie hit #1 in a total of 21 countries, and was watched for 47.7M hours in its first five days. It made its world premiere at the 2020 Toronto film festival and was released in theaters on November 17, before appearing on Netflix on the 24th. Berry  produced the movie with Terry Douglas, Gillian G. Hormel, Paris Kassidokostas-Latas, Erica Lee, Linda Gottlieb, Guymon Casady, Brad Feinstein, and Basil Iwaynk.

In the film Berry plays an MMA fighter who reclaims her title after she was down and not doing so well. She was motivated to get back into fighting after she found out she had a son. Afterwards Halle won one of her first fights after the following incident that had stopped her from fighting and  was introduced to Immaculate (Shamier Anderson). An independent promoter with conflicting intentions who  wanted to go toe-to-toe with the UFC, and believed  Jackie could  be his ticket. Halle was a little stubborn at first but she soon realized that fighting was her life, so she called the promoter and started training ASAP. Halle eventually got her son taken by her mother and was very eager to get him back. So, when her promoter came to her about a great opportunity, she took it. She ended up not winning the fight, but she did get her son back and most importantly her name, “Jackie Justice.” This movie really is the definition of powerful. It teaches you to never give up and always try even if it’s hard.

Outside of her new deal with Netflix, Berry will soon be seen in two upcoming features from the streamer, including writer-director Matt Charman’s sci-fi pic The Mothership—which she is also executive producing—and the action film Our Man From Jersey, in which she stars alongside Mark Wahlberg. She will also soon be seen in Roland Emmerich’s sci-fi epic Moonfall, which is set for release in theaters via Lionsgate on February 4.
