If you haven’t heard by now, the Eastern Girls Soccer Team has been doing well—very well. At a record of 15-0 the girls are lighting up the field and show no signs of slowing down.

For head coach Jamie McGroarty, winning is nothing new. In his twenty sixth year coaching (fifteenth year at Eastern), Coach McGroarty holds a record of 402-107-44. His undefeated Vikings currently sit atop the Olympic Conference and hope to keep their win streak going for as long as they can.

According the senior captain Amanda Farnsworth, the team’s success can be credited to working together and building up their team chemistry more and more each day. “We have pasta parties mostly before every game. And we’ve gotten really close with the freshmen too, so they’re pretty comfortable playing on the field,” Farnsworth said.

Being comfortable on the field is an understatement for freshman forward Riley Tiernan, who currently leads the team in goals. “I would have to say that my teammates have played the biggest role in my success…I am very close with them and I think having good chemistry with your teammates makes a huge difference as a team,” said Tiernan on her outstanding season so far.

Although Tiernan is still in her first months of high school, she has already committed to Rutgers University on a soccer scholarship. Riley had a lot to justify her decision to commit to Rutgers as she said “My sister went there and she had a good experience academically and athletically. I also really want to stay in Jersey because it’s where all my family is. I think it’s really important to stay close to home and have the support of your family. It can make a huge difference.”

Along with Farnsworth and Tiernan, the team is led by a strong group of players including Madison Tyree, Mikayla Ronczka, Ashley Pietrafitta, Sara Brocious, Kelli McGroarty, and Nicolette Scarduzio just to name a few.

The girls are looking to keep up the great work they have had in the regular season and transfer it into a playoff run. “I can see us getting very far and hopefully making the SJ Final again as long as we keep working hard and playing with heart,” said Farnsworth.

McGroarty also has confidence in his team as he stated “If we stay healthy, improve our chemistry, and get some lucky bounces, we could be a threat to win a sectional title and beyond.”

Hopefully the girls can keep up the great work and cap their season off with a playoff push.
