Sara Braslow works with the theatre club’s dance team as they prepare for “Legally Blonde.”

Sara Braslow, a successful actress and dancer, will be joining the Eastern theater club for the spring musical, “Legally Blonde.” Braslow will work alongside Director, Dr. Molotsky, and Vocal Director, Mrs. Akinskas, as the Head Choreographer.

Among many other star attributes, Braslow brings her admirable resume to our stage. In 1997, she played Sally Simpson in “Tommy” at PCPA Theatrefest. While Braslow was involved in theatre for several years before her performance at PCPA, this was the first of many times she assumed the role of dance captain.

A dance captain is a cast member responsible for maintaining the excellence of the choreography during a show’s run. They keep a constant watch on all other cast members to ensure they stay sharp, clean, and on beat, as well as teaching the musical’s choreography to new cast members. Thus, their knowledge of one another’s choreography allows them to typically double as a swing.

Braslow’s theater background, including her most notable performance in 2005, provides more than adequate preparation for Eastern’s spring musical. For four and a half years, Braslow traveled with the Broadway National Tour of “MAMMA MIA!” as the dance captain and swing.

Despite her eight-month pregnancy towards the end of her run, Braslow continued to shine on and off stage. However, she stepped down from her role in 2010—nine weeks before her first daughter was born.

Today, Braslow continues her love of musical theatre through teaching. Specializing in dance, she coaches professionals and teenagers alike that are involved in the industry.

Upon talking to the talented Braslow, she plans to combine her coaching skills and passion for the stage while choreographing the spring musical. Although she has prior experience as a choreographer, “Legally Blonde” is her first time working on a high school production.

Braslow explains that her main goal is to strengthen students’ connection with the audience through movement. She wants to help Eastern performers thrive and improve their craft by treating them identically to professional actors. “Every person on stage plays a vital role in the production,” says Braslow after a four-hour dance rehearsal. Between her eye for detail, teaching qualities, charismatic personality, and overall talent, Sara Braslow is undoubtedly the perfect fit as Eastern’s choreographer. And, as Elle Woods would say, she looks great in pink!

“Legally Blonde” will run from March 18th-26th. Stay tuned for more information about how to purchase tickets!
